 Note loose, long volva sack around base of stem. Seeing such distinctive features is the reason for digging out the entire fungus, not just breaking it off at ground level. Cottony material on top of the cap was attached to the volva sack before the stem/stipe expanded and "cracked the egg" pouch containing the mushroom.
